About

Welcome to the Choi Tae Kwon Do Long Beach Web site! We hope you find this information useful. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Choi Tae Kwon Do Long Beach is a small non-commercial school with associations around the country. We are part of the larger D’Amico community of clubs.

We focus on developing relationships to last a life-time. Your instructor doesn’t change from class to class, which means you get the attention you need at every stage of your development.

We don’t charge money or do any of this for profit. We teach because we want to share the art with others. You are welcome to come try with us at any class to see if this is a place where you can grow.

History

Our club was founded in 2000 by Melinda Elmer & Sapna Anderson. We are a small club, but open to growth and welcomes new members.  All are welcome to try.

Club workouts are sometimes held outside at a park, or when it is too hot or inclement to work out in the park we train at LA Fitness on the corner of Carson & Cherry in Long Beach.   Please contact us before hand if interested in attending a class to find out where we will be.

For the first couple years, Sapna Anderson & Melinda Elmer primarily trained together.  Now, Sapna has moved on to New Jersey, Melinda Elmer leads the classes in Long Beach.

Melinda Elmer is a first degree black belt. Her instructor, Jack Nitschke, now teaches in Madison, WI. His instructor, Master D’Amico, teaches in New Bedford, MA, and heads up the community of schools. Ranks of black belt and beyond are tested for under Master D’Amico in New Bedford.  Colored belt tests are held jointly with Choi Tae Kwon Do San Diego.  Shibin Parameswaran is instructor in San Diego.

Our club continues to grow and improve. Come be a part of our group.  If you are interested please contact us at melinda.elmer@gmail.com.
